Experience of Being an Apprentice
Throughout school and college there was always pressure to go to university however, it never appealed to me. As many other young people, I had no idea what to do with my life, literally! After researching into apprenticeships and finding The Last Hurdle were offering one in marketing and social media; it was that moment I knew that’s what I wanted to do.
The process was straight forward and after applying and having a conversation with Keia, who was absolutely lovely from the Tess Group, an interview was arranged promptly. Obviously, the interview was nerve racking but at that moment I knew it was exactly what career pathway I wanted to take. Finding out I had been successful and got the position was such a relief, I am very grateful for being a part of The Last Hurdle 02.
Experience of Being an Apprentice
Currently, I am undertaking a level 3 NVQ in Social Media Marketing and have been a part of the team since October. Once a month I have an assessor visit me and set plenty of work to do, which is going really well. Having a creative background, I previously studied graphic design at college; has really helped me and brought a new aspect to the company. The hands-on experience has given me the opportunity of working in the industry and has dramatically built my confidence. I have learnt many valuable skills and working with Trevor has been a great experience, he is a fantastic mentor.
Meeting new people at networking events, a whole new experience for me, and working with clients has been a huge confidence builder and has developed my communications skills and professionalism.
Having the experience of being an apprentice is a great way to get your foot in the door and the long term benefits are great. I would definitely recommend apprenticeships; it is well worth researching into what apprenticeships there are on offer and the benefits they can bring to you.
I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to work alongside Trevor at The Last Hurdle and look forward to many years of employment.
