The Power of Positivity
What does positivity actually mean? According to Merriam-Webster, positivity is defined as:
- The quality or state of being positive.
- Something that is positive.
It’s a state of mind—something we can all adopt or be affected by.
The Power of Positivity
Positivity doesn’t mean ignoring what’s going on around you. It’s about acknowledging the situation, learning from it and turning it into something positive. How often have you found yourself saying, “Why is this happening to me?” or “It’s not fair”? Maybe you’ve thought, “The timing couldn’t be worse.”
The truth is, sometimes there isn’t a right time, and sometimes you can’t control what happens. But, as a wise boss once told me, “Don’t put time and energy into something you cannot affect!” Those words still resonate with me, especially when I see someone else, or even myself, wasting energy on things they can’t change.
Letting Go of Negativity
Over the years, I’ve learned to let go of negativity. When things go wrong, I ask myself, “What can I do to affect this?” Then I smile and choose to be positive. The moment you let positivity in, it pushes the negativity out. You’ll be in a position to focus your energy on what you can change.
Positivity isn’t just a feeling—it’s a quality you can cultivate. It becomes a part of who you are and being positive allows you to see opportunities where others see problems.
Finding Balance
Life is all about balance. For every negative, there’s a positive—just like magnets. If you try to push two negative or two positive sides of a magnet together, it doesn’t work. Similarly, in life, it’s about how you view and handle situations that makes the difference.
Let’s take a real-life example. Recently, someone I know lost their job. Their partner wasn’t working either and financially, things weren’t looking great. Instead of dwelling on how bad the situation could get, they immediately started looking for a new job. Within three days, they had found a new opportunity. Their partner still wasn’t working, but they were—taking a huge amount of pressure off.
The positive outcome came from their decision to stop focusing on “woe is me” and embrace the mindset of, “What can I do to change this?” If they hadn’t chosen positivity, they could still be stuck in a negative state, waiting for someone else to solve their problems.
Positivity Gets Results
Negativity will drain your energy and leave you feeling stuck. Positivity, on the other hand, gives you the power to change your situation. Forget the negative. Think positive. Positivity gets results!
